In 2011, Veronika Scott, a student at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit began a school project initially designed a sleeping bag coat to address the 1 in 42 Detroit residents that are homeless. With support from the community and some organizations, Veronika has seen her school project grown into a thriving business.
The mission of The Empowerment Plan is to hire homeless women from local shelters to become full time seamstresses. These women manufacture a coat that transforms into a sleeping bag, which is then given out to homeless individuals living on the streets at no cost to them. We believe in giving second chances to those who want it, and providing warmth to those who need it. Find out more about this great group here!
